Are dermal fillers designed for soft tissue augmentation.
Skin deteriorates as it ages and its exposure to sunlight inhibits the ability of fibroblasts to produce collagen. The effective treatment is injecting a fillers into the dermis that underlies the wrinkles. This was designed as a space filler, with additional physiological effect. As the injection stretches the dermis, the fibroblasts respond by producing more collagen
RESTYLANE and JUVEDERM , are dermal fillers made from a highly purified form of hyaluronic acid that mimics the effects of natural hyaluronic acid. They are injected under the surface of the skin to restore the natural contours of the face. The longevity of correction ranges from 6 to 12 months RADIESSE is an injectable filler material composed of synthetic calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres and aqueous gel. When placed into soft tissue, Radiesse provides immediate correction. Over time, the carrier gel is gradually absorbed and the calcium particles remain. Local fibroblastic response at the site is a production of the new collagen around the microspheres. Over the time, calcium particles are broken down into calcium and phosphate ions via normal metabolic processes and eliminated through the body’s normal excretory functions. The longevity of correction ranges from 12 to 18 months.
During treatment filler is injected just below the surface of the skin with a very fine needle. The gel produces volume under the wrinkle, which is lifted up and smoothed it out. When enhancing lips or facial contours, it adds volume and shape to the treated areas. Mild to moderate stinging and burning is common during the injection, while redness and swelling can last for hours or days after injection. The amount of filler used during your treatment depends on the desired correction. Treatment with any fillers is a very quick and easy process and generally takes 20 to 30 minutes. Fillers can be used : for lip augmentation including the vermilion border, the lip itself, and the philtrum; for the correction nasolabial folds, glabella, periorbital region including correction of tear-trough deformities, depressed acne scars, perioral lines and oral commissures. Very deep wrinkles may be difficult to correct. Sometimes the best result can be achieved with combination of Botox and filler.
There are few reported side effects and those reported are commonly associated with injection of filler. They may include swelling, bruising, pain, itching, and tenderness at the injection site. These conditions typically resolve on their own within a few days.
